Strike at Boland and Northlink College, CT

The students at Boland North Link College Bellville Campus today embarked on strike-action.

The grievances as per their memorandum are:

1. Lack of recognition of Student Organisations that lead SRC to being handpicked by management.
2. Poor handling of financial affairs in the institution (NSFAS funds shifted from student allowances to other college needs such as shortage of staff)
3. Failure to pay student allowances for travelling, accommodation and inconsistency on allocation of funds.
4. Failure to distinguish between the students who are allocated a bursary and those granted a loan (students are of the impression they got bursaries and later realise they received loans instead)

EFF Provincial Secretary, Melikhaya Xego, along with Regional Chairperson of Cape Metro, Cosmos Mabon and the strikers met with College management and police at Boland College and after discussions agreed that the parties should start negotiations at 08H00 Tuesday morning. No classes will take place until negotiations are over and will only resume when the situation is normalised.

A 10 member delegation will meet with Boland college management tomorrow to present their memorandum of grievances and negotiate.
